Studebaker In A Tree

Introduction

My name is Mark, and I've always loved Studebaker's.  In fact, I've always had an interest in orphan marques.  I remember a neighbor back in the early 70s that had an old 1953 Studebaker Commander.  I rode in that car a few times and was amazed at how far ahead of its time it was.  From then, I've always loved Studebaker's.  I am a member of the Studebaker Drivers Club

In February of 2005, my wife Tina gave me her blessing to look for a Studebaker of my own.  I found this Cruiser nearly in our back yard.  At first, it was a bit more than I wanted to spend, but decided it wouldn't hurt to have a look.  That was a big mistake.  When I pulled up in the driveway, it was evident the love and care that have gone into this car over the last 40 years.  It looked like new.

I have since sold the Cruiser to Mr. Richard Allen of Wagoner, OK.  It is a great car and I hate to see it go, but I'm looking forward to my next Studebaker.

This Cruiser has a six cylinder McKinnon engine manufactured by GM.  Art Unger, editor of Turning Wheels provided me with the following information:

791 Cruisers were built with 6 cylinder engines; of those, 128 had a standard 3-speed transmission, 74 had standard PLUS overdrive; and 589 came with an automatic transmission.

In addition there were 2,901 Cruisers built that year with a V-8 engine.
